Overview

We are seeking a Registered Nurse specializing in IV Therapy is responsible for the safe and effective administration of intravenous medications, fluids, nutrients, blood products, and other therapies. This role focuses on vascular access, patient monitoring, complication prevention, and patient education to ensure optimal outcomes during infusion treatments. The RN works collaboratively with physicians, pharmacists, and the healthcare team.

Duties

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after IV therapy, including reviewing medical history, lab results, allergies, and current medications.
  • Initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue intravenous access, including peripheral IVs and implanted ports.
  • Administer prescribed IV therapies (e.g., fluids, antibiotics, pain management medications, hydration, nutritional support) in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and evidence-based standards.
  • Calculate and regulate IV flow rates, use infusion pumps, and manage primary/secondary infusions accurately.
    Monitor patients closely for adverse reactions, complications (e.g., infiltration, phlebitis, extravasation, allergic responses, air embolism), and intervene promptly.
  • Provide patient and family education on IV therapy procedures, site care, signs of complications, home infusion management (if applicable), and post-treatment instructions.
  • Document all aspects of care, including assessments, interventions, patient responses, vital signs, and any incidents in the electronic health record.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot IV equipment, change dressings and tubing per protocol, and ensure infection control standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Maryland
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum 1–2 years of clinical RN experience, preferably with IV therapy or acute care/medical-surgical background.
  • Proven experience with IV infusion therapy and medication administration across various clinical environments
  • Strong venipuncture and IV insertion skills, with knowledge of ultrasound-guided access if applicable.
  • Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and patient education abilities.
  • Attention to detail, steady hands, and composure under pressure.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology, infusion standards, and complication management.
  • Must pass background checks and drug screening prior to employment
