MD or NP, Functional Medicine Practice in Vancouver BC

The ideal candidate must have a current, valid medical license in Canada. While advanced training and certification in functional medicine is a big advantage, an internal training program is available for the right candidate. Job Summary

The MD or NP is a functional medicine trained physician who serves as a clinical leader and role model for the health care providers in the organization while actively seeing patients and promoting the health care philosophy that incorporates innovative wellness programs for both men and women.

They should display an appreciation for the “medical big picture” as well as understanding the desire to create a world class health care legacy. They should question the traditional medical practice behaviours and be willing to help mold a medical paradigm shift. The MD or NP will assume the vital role of teaching, mentoring, inspiring and leading a provider organization, and its support staff, while ensuring quality outcomes and accountability.

The MD or NP will assist in data analysis and monitoring of clinical programs and develop concrete solutions to ensure the continued delivery of excellent medical care. Additionally, s/he assures that the practice is in compliance with all medical regulations of the Canadian health care regulatory bodies.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide active and on-going patient care and clinical hours
  • Provides guidance and leadership for medical performance guidelines and programs
  • Participate in the activity of group practitioners, including the recruiting, onboarding, training and credentialing processes
  • Assigns, supervises and reviews the work of the provider medical staff
  • Handles physician/provider behaviour and impairment issues
  • Supports medical documentation and care planning
  • Ensures compliance with policy and regulatory requirements
  • Creates and implements a best practice program, maintaining a consistent level of quality patient care.
  • Provides medical consultations for medical staff and facility officials
  • Handles clinical patient complaints
  • Addresses clinical emergency issues
  • Manage Practitioner relations and/or representation
  • Timely reporting of threats of litigation

Qualitative Requirements

  • Strong leadership talents and works well in a distributed team-based environment. Able to present a strong leadership presence to medical teams
  • Is an experienced and organized multi-tasker
  • Exceptional research and writing skills
  • Has a positive attitude with a high degree of energy
  • Must be willing to constantly challenge the status quo clinical and operationally
  • Is an effective and persuasive communicator who is comfortable speaking with all levels of a practice administration team and medical staff
  • Excellent reputation as a clinician with strong diagnostic skills and a calm and rational approach to problem solving
  • Possess a willingness to look at the patient in a comprehensive fashion and promote the customer service aspect of the patient medical encounter
  • The MD will have patient care responsibilities in addition to their administrative duties
  • This is a full time, on site, patient facing position

Educational Qualifications

To be considered for this position, the MD or NP has at least 3-5 years of professional experience in a medical practice setting. Additionally, s/he must be board-certified within an area of specialty with an active license in Canada. Must have leadership and operational experience with the ability to foster and develop operational strategies and design implementation. A background in Functional Medicine, Integrative Medicine and/or Hormonal Medicine is highly desirable but not required.
