Evidence & Research Contractor
Work Type: Contract, temporary

Location: Remote

Estimated Duration: 3 months (possible renewal for additional 3 months)

Schedule: 10 hours/week (Minimum of three hours must be worked during business hours, 8:00am-5pm PST)

Compensation: $47.70-$60.73/hr. DOE

Position Summary: The Evidence & Research contractor is responsible for providing support to the Evidence & Research team in strategic projects aligning with IFM’s standards as directed by the Manager, Research & Evidence. The Evidence & Research contractor will be responsible for clearing the backlog of articles that require evidence analysis.

Statement of Work

  • Collaborate directly with the Manager, Evidence & Research to discuss articles, receive feedback, execute medical literature searches and draft brief literature summaries to support the development of IFM’s functional medicine research library.
  • Suggest search terms that may be useful for identifying additional functional medicine research.
  • Assess the quality of citations and other resources to communicate the strength of evidence, risk of harm, adherence to the Functional Medicine Research Component Checklists, and overall suitability to support clinical recommendations and educational materials.
  • Utilize clinical subject matter expertise to add context and commentary to the literature summaries.

As this is a contract/1099 position, the successful candidate must be able to satisfy independent contractor requirements as assigned by their state of residence (including required tax and business identification numbers, complete W9 forms, etc.).

What We’re Looking For:

  • Clinical subject matter expertise and experience relevant to human health (ND, MD, RDN, DC, etc.).
  • Knowledge and ability to interpret biostatistics in published medical literature required (computational skills not required).
  • Expert-level literature curation skills required, with mastery in an end-to-end process to design a research question, execute a PubMed search, organize and evaluate evidence, and draft research summaries for stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of dietary and lifestyle interventions.
  • Knowledge of natural products and supplements.
  • Knowledge of human physiology and pathophysiology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to convey complex concepts to various audiences.
  • Strong process orientation:
  • Must be able to follow an established workflow and suggest process improvements where applicable.
  • Must be able to apply feedback.
  • Able to work independently with track record of showing initiative and creativity.
  • Expertise with MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.); willingness and ability to adapt to new technologies and software, Asana, Airtable, Box, and RightFind.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate of research-focused education program (i.e. Epidemiology, Public Health, etc.)
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing processes, systems, and priorities.
  • Familiarity and experience with functional medicine and/or research design.
  • Successful candidates will possess a highly organized professional work style and will have experience managing competing deadlines.
