Position Summary

The Clinical Content Developer (CCD) is expected to be a recognized functional medicine expert within IFM, and to contribute to and influence the development of IFM’s functional medicine programs and education strategy. In this role, the Clinical Content Developer will work to support programs, products, and initiatives across the organization, working within and outside the Medical Education department to supply the clinical resources necessary for new or ongoing clinical content in support of IFM’s core programs. This role requires a specialized depth of expertise and knowledge in the area of functional medicine.

Essential Functions

Clinical Content Development

  • Collaborates with staff members across departments, contractors, consultants, and reviewers to ensure that educational content is of high professional quality and incorporates elements of adult learning and instructional design into presentations, with an emphasis on outcome measures regarding the learning objectives.
  • Reviews program content and collaborates within and outside the Medical Education Department on the production of the program content to ensure content synergy and alignment with organizational content strategy.
  • Serves as a curriculum content curator to internal and external parties as requested and supports the development of tracking and maintenance of program information as directed by the Manager, Clinical Content Development.
  • As a member of the Evidence Team, curates and evaluates evidentiary content and sources while ensuring quality and alignment with IFM Standards, Copyright policy, Citations Database and other parameters as directed by the supervisor.
  • Supports the ongoing compliance work to ensure that the IFM clinical assets are copyright compliant including the tracking/cataloging of assets and built to meet accessibility conformance goals.
  • Participates in ongoing training (evidence, copyright, accessibility) critical to the development of content at IFM.
  • When applicable, collaborates with the Accreditation team to ensure adherence to the rules and standards for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and other professional continuing education credits.

Clinical Content Project Coordination

  • Monitors, manages, and develops educational assets, functional nutrition, and functional medicine projects from initiation through completion; including planning, resourcing, tracking, reporting, troubleshooting, etc. as directed by supervisor.
  • Responsible for producing educational assets that meet the quality, reliability, schedule as set by the supervisor.
  • Keeps the Manager, Clinical Content Development abreast of project performance and recommends schedule changes or resource additions on a weekly basis.
  • Collaborates within and outside the Medical Education Department to research, develop, revise, and maintain IFM’s library of intellectual property.
  • Works within and outside the Curriculum team to ensure that educational event materials, program schedules, and promotional materials are available to fulfill IFM deadlines, alerts supervisor of missing materials.
  • Responsible for preparation and execution of clinical/curriculum deliverables for livestream and/or on-site programming.

Relationship Management

  • Supports the Manager, Clinical Content Development to ensure that all associated parties (Ex: team members, program speakers, contract workers, educators and reviewers) are meeting production timelines, provide support internally and externally as needed.
  • Responsible for communicating concepts, directives, and requests to directors, peers, colleagues, and external parties as assigned by the Manager, Clinical Content Development.

FM Ambassador and Advocate

  • Participates in IFM online forums, webinars, and other interactive activities with partners, educators and participants as needed.
  • Offers event support at IFM events, both virtual and in-person, including co-facilitation of events as required (Q&A sessions, etc.).
  • Acts as a functional medicine ambassador for IFM by providing expertise, offering support to and receiving feedback from internal IFM employees, partners, attendees, and other third parties – through both formal and informal arrangements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Master’s degree in a health-related field required.
  • Experience with adult learning, instructional design principles, and e-learning programs preferred.
  • Experience in functional medicine or functional nutrition strongly preferred.
  • Experience and comfortability with public speaking preferred.
  • Active healthcare license preferred.
  • Demonstrated clinical skills.
  • Proficient literature curation skills, with an ability to conduct an end-to-end literature review that includes the refinement of a clinical question, identification of search terms and a database-appropriate search strategy, organization and evaluation of search results and a research summary draft for stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates information literacy, including understanding the basics of study design and foundational statistical methodology in medical literature. Examples include but are not limited to: interpretation of confidence intervals, p-values, dichotomous and continuous summary measures (i.e. risk ratios, weighted mean differences) and ability to comment on clinical significance.

  • Decision Making: Ability to make decisions guided by resource availability and functional objectives. Demonstrate data driven decision making combined with intuitive understanding and an ability to translate key insights to stakeholders and partners.
  • Lead: Ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Organizational Excellence, Planning & Organization: Demonstrated experience leading, taking initiative, ownership, and accountability for projects; able to react quickly with a strong sense of urgency. Understands and applies effective organizational techniques to stay focused, demonstrate efficiency in work and allocate/request appropriate resources when needed.
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with teams on communication processes, goals, schedules, and outcomes. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and actively contributes as a member of working teams to achieve results. Embodies the employee values to build, motivate and maintain healthy and functional teams.
  • Competent with MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); willingness and ability to adapt to new technologies and software, including but not limited to Drobox, Asana, and Airtable, Articulate 360, BioRender.
