Position Summary

The Clinical Content Developer (CCD) is expected to be a recognized functional nutrition and functional medicine expert within IFM, and to contribute to and influence the development of IFM’s programs, products, and education strategy. In this role, the Clinical Content Developer will work to support programs, products, and initiatives as assigned, working within and outside the Medical Education Department to supply the clinical resources necessary for new or ongoing clinical content. This role will be responsible for utilizing clinical expertise to write and translate medical information to practitioner and patient audiences.

Essential Functions

Clinical Content Development

  • Plans, produces, reviews, and revises Continuing Medical Education (CME) and non-CME content as assigned by the supervisor, including curation, writing, and Adobe InDesign desktop publishing.
  • As a member of the Evidence Team, curates and evaluates evidentiary sources and content while ensuring quality and alignment with IFM Standards, Copyright policy, Citations Database and other parameters as directed by supervisor or other Evidence Team members.
  • Collaborates with staff members across departments, contractors, consultants, and reviewers to ensure that educational content is of high professional quality and incorporates elements of adult learning and instructional design, with an emphasis on outcome measures regarding learning objectives where applicable.
  • Collaborates across departments to ensure content synergy and alignment with organizational content strategy.
  • Ensures adherence to established standards and best practices for project management, intellectual property, branding, and accessibility in MER products and processes, in collaboration with related teams and as directed by supervisor.
  • Participates in ongoing training (evidence, copyright, accessibility, etc.) critical to the development of content at IFM.
  • When applicable, collaborates with the Accreditation team to ensure adherence to the rules and standards for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and other professional continuing education credits.
  • Works collaboratively with Production Specialist(s) to create and revise educational resources in Adobe InDesign.
  • Responsible for communicating concepts, directives, and requests to directors, peers, colleagues, and external parties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Collaborates within and outside the Medical Education department on the development and evaluation of new promotional/educational product ideas, as well as enhancements to existing products or strategic product extensions, and translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.

Project Coordination

  • Monitors and manages assigned projects from initiation through completion; including planning, resourcing, tracking, reporting, troubleshooting, etc. as directed by supervisor.
  • Ensures project results meet requirements regarding quality, reliability, and schedule, including adherence to established standards and best practices for project management, intellectual property, branding, and accessibility, in collaboration with related teams and as directed by supervisor.
  • Collaborates within and outside the Medical Education Department to research, develop, revise, and maintain IFM’s library of intellectual property.
  • Works within and outside the Resources team to ensure that projects and products meet deadlines; alerts supervisor of delays and recommends schedule changes or resource additions as needed.
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for various processes and workflows and recommends improvements and/or efficiencies to supervisor.

FM Ambassador and Advocate

  • Offers support for IFM programs, both virtual and in-person; participates in IFM online forums, webinars, and other interactive activities with partners, educators, and participants as needed.
  • Acts as a functional medicine ambassador for IFM by providing expertise, offering support to and receiving feedback from internal IFM employees, partners, attendees, and other third parties – through both formal and informal arrangements.

What We’re Looking For

  • Master’s degree in a health-related field required.
  • Functional medicine or functional nutrition training and clinical experience.
  • Experience in research, medical writing, evidence curation.
  • Experience in handling complex projects and working with multiple stakeholders, across multiple geographical locations to achieve stated milestones and objectives.
  • Experience with adult learning, instructional design principles, and e-learning programs preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Suite preferred.
  • Knowledge of project coordination skillsets with an ability to effectively deliver projects to fruition.
  • Proficient literature curation skills, with an ability to conduct an end-to-end literature review that includes the refinement of a clinical question, identification of search terms and a database-appropriate search strategy, organization and evaluation of search results and a research summary draft for stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates information literacy, including understanding the basics of study design and foundational statistical methodology in medical literature. Examples include but are not limited to: interpretation of confidence intervals, p-values, dichotomous and continuous summary measures (i.e. risk ratios, weighted mean differences) and ability to comment on clinical significance.

  • Decision Making: Ability to make decisions guided by resource availability and functional objectives. Demonstrate data driven decision making combined with intuitive understanding and an ability to translate key insights to stakeholders and partners.

  • Organizational Excellence, Planning & Organization: Demonstrated experience leading, taking initiative, ownership, and accountability for projects; Able to react quickly with a strong sense of urgency. Understands and applies effective organizational techniques to stay focused, demonstrate efficiency in work and allocate/request appropriate resources when needed.
  • Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with teams on communication processes, goals, schedules, and outcomes. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and actively contributes as a member of working teams to achieve results. Embodies the employee values to build, motivate and maintain healthy and functional teams.
  • Technical: Competent with MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); willingness and ability to adapt to new technologies and software, including but not limited to Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Box, Asana, Airtable, Articulate 360, BioRender.
