Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner – Job Description (part-time, remote/hybrid)

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our progressive model of mental healthcare, backed by science and experts in psychiatry and behavioral health, is seeking a Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner – who is compassionate and patient-centered, to work in an integrative Psychiatrist-led mental health practice which provides a modality of services with the intention of addressing the whole person.

Ideal candidates are grounded in a comprehensive approach to care, with a passion for functional medicine and an interest in mental health, clinical excellence and the opportunity to work in a “start-up” environment where they not only provide outstanding care but help shape a modern health practice.

In this role, you will collaboratively work with our team of providers to deliver innovative care for people with mental health conditions with a focus on interpreting advanced diagnostic laboratory testing, contributing to the development of treatment plans in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary care team, and providing excellent Functional Medicine care as part of an integrated care model. This is a flexible, hourly, part-time role (8 hours per week), remote or hybrid, with the potential to increase hours as your caseload builds.

You will:

• Provide direct patient care as a functional medicine expert as part of Being Health’s comprehensive approach to providing care in a modern mental health practice
• Conduct laboratory interpretation visits, comprehensive evaluations and follow-up care in line with a functional medicine approach via the Being Health telehealth platform or in-person according to your preference.
• Develop and implement customized treatment protocols that may include lifestyle changes, nutrition adaptations, supplements, pharmacological therapies, and more in conjunction with the integrated care team at Being Health.
• Initiate referrals to specialists when indicated or to providers within the Being Health system of care
• Interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic assessments to evaluate the patient’s overall health status and identify potential deficiencies, imbalances, or dysfunctions
• Work collaborative and closely with team members (nutritionists, behavioral health providers, care advocates, etc) to optimize the patient experience and to provide coordinated and high quality care for patients
• Provide ongoing support, guidance, and education to patients to help them achieve their health objectives
• Follow Being Health’s organizational policies, procedures, and protocols
• Provide continuous feedback to the Medical Director and Operations Director on ways to improve patient flow, patient care, EHR documentation, diagnostic testing options, and therapeutic interventions
• Help contribute to the development of content on the intersection between functional medicine, mental health and overall wellbeing in conjunction with the clinical team, Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer on an as needed basis
• Participate in professional training programs as deemed necessary by Medical Leadership

Requirements

• 5+ yrs. of experience, preferably within the primary care,  or outpatient setting and at least 2+ years applying Functional Medicine and/or Integrative Medicine within scope of practice
• Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Integrative FPNP with an active license to practice in the state of New York as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Nurse Practitioner Licensure with Certification in a specialty (e.g., Family Nurse Practitioner – FNP) through a national board like the ANCC or AANP.
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a focus on functional medicine.
• Advanced program training in functional medicine principles, advanced assessment techniques, and integrative therapies such as through Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) certification, Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP), or Completion of the IFM Certification Program (IFMCP). Completion of Univ of Az IM NP  or the Univ of Az IM Fellowship is a plus.
• BLS Certification
• DEA license
• Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently with diverse team members, caregivers, students, and patients.
• Passionate about health and wellness at the intersection of mental health with a dose of compassion and empathy
• Tech-savvy and feel comfortable seeing patients via telemedicine or in-person at the center.

We consider an individual’s qualifications, skillset, and experience in determining final salary.  The expected salary range for this position is $60-100 per hour and the exact offer will be commensurate with qualifications and years of experience.
